The 10,000 km service on a Gen-2: what it includes and what it costs

Liputan disemakbeginner

Do not pour engine oil down a drain. Take the used oil to a workshop or a recycling point
A service is not a safety inspection by default. Ask for the brakes and tyres to be looked at, in those words
If the car is overheating, smells of fuel or has a brake light on, that is a repair, not a service

Alat diperlukan: Owner's manual and service book

Steps

1

Find the last service entry

Tip: Note the odometer and the date. The Gen-2 interval is 10,000 km or six months, whichever arrives first
2

List the two things that are actually due

Tip: At 10,000 km it is engine oil and filter plus a tyre rotation. Everything else on the schedule is inspect or wait
3

Price the parts before you price the labour

Tip: The genuine oil filter is PW914085, about RM13. The 1.6 S4PH service fill is 3.75 litres, so you can see what the oil should cost
4

Ask for an itemised bill before they start

Tip: Parts, oil in litres with the grade, labour. A single 'service package' total hides which of those you paid for
5

Check the invoice against the schedule afterwards

Tip: Nothing from the 40,000 km list belongs at 10,000 km unless you agreed to it. 'Engine flush' is not a scheduled item

The Gen-2 runs the CamPro-family schedule: engine oil and filter every 10,000 km or six months, air filter at 20,000 km, spark plugs and brake fluid at 40,000 km. At the 10,000 km mark only the first is due, which makes this an easy bill to audit. Two lines belong there. Anything else is a conversation, not a default.

What is actually due at 10,000 km

Item What it is Scheduled?
Engine oil Drain and refill, 3.75 litres on the 1.6 S4PH Yes, every 10,000 km or 6 months
Oil filter Genuine PW914085 Yes, with the oil
Tyre rotation Front to rear, and set the pressures Yes, at 10,000 km
Air filter Panel filter PW811941 Inspect only. Replace at 20,000 km
Brakes Pad and disc condition, fluid level Inspect, so ask for it
Plugs, fluid, transaxle oil Scheduled for 40,000 km No. Not at this service

These intervals are the CamPro-family figures, not Gen-2 booklet figures: the fluids page marks them that way for the same reason. If your car came with the book, the book wins.

What it should cost

  • Engine oil and filter service, with labour: about RM150, the figure on this site’s Gen-2 service table.
  • Tyre rotation: about RM40.
  • So a 10,000 km service with nothing extra lands near RM190, and RM150 to RM220 covers most Malaysian workshops and a franchised service centre.

The split matters more than the total. The filter is around RM13 and the oil is 3.75 litres; the rest is labour and the oil’s grade. The grade is not listed here because no grade could be tied to a Proton document, so check the book and then check that the invoice names the same grade.

What should not be on the bill

  • Engine flush. Not a scheduled item, and it risks loosening sludge into an old oil pickup.
  • Injector or throttle-body cleaning. The S4PH is simple port injection, and the schedule does not call for it at 10,000 km.
  • Spark plugs, brake fluid, transaxle oil. All 40,000 km items. Early is not harmful, but it is not the service you booked.
  • A “major service” label. Ask for the itemised list instead of the label.

What to check afterwards

  • The invoice names the oil grade and the litres, and the filter number is PW914085 or an equivalent you agreed to.
  • The dipstick reads between MIN and MAX, engine off for five minutes.
  • Tyre pressures are set, and the rotation happened: note which wheels now carry the newest tread.
  • The next service date and odometer are written in the book or on the sticker.
  • Cardboard under the sump overnight. A fresh drip is the workshop’s job to fix.

When to stop

There is no repair to attempt here, so the line to hold is the bill. If a workshop will not itemise parts, oil and labour, or insists on work the schedule does not list, pay for the oil change and take the car elsewhere. If the car is overheating, smells of fuel, or has a brake warning light on, book a diagnosis, not a service.

Verified against this site’s Gen-2 fluids and service-interval entry (CamPro-family 10,000 km or six-month oil interval, RM150 oil service, RM40 tyre rotation, PW914085 filter, 3.75 litre fill) and the Gen-2 part-number listings, checked 2026-11-01. The intervals are family figures, not Gen-2 booklet figures.
