Knock from the rear over uneven road

low
Liputan disemak

Tempah bengkel tidak lama lagi. Anda belum perlu berhenti memandu.

Jika dibiarkan: Left alone, the bushes soften further, the beam shifts in its mounts and the uneven rear tyre wear gets worse.

Melibatkan tahun model: 2014-2025

Simptom

  • Soft knock or thud from behind the rear seat over patched tarmac
  • Rear feels loose or steps sideways slightly when cornering hard
  • Clunk when one rear wheel drops into a drain cut
  • Tyres wearing unevenly on the inside edge at the back

Punca

The Iriz runs a torsion beam at the rear, mounted on two trailing arm bushes. Those bushes take every sideways load and they crack and soften with age, which lets the beam move in its mounts. The noise sounds like a loose spare wheel or a body rattle, which is why it gets chased in the wrong place first.

Penyelesaian

Ask for the rear trailing arm bushes to be checked with the car on a lift, and for the boot floor and spare wheel to be checked at the same time so you know which noise you are chasing. Worn bushes are replaced as a pair. An alignment afterwards is worth the money because a shifting beam changes rear toe.

Rear knocks are cheap to diagnose and cheap to fix if you get the right part. The misdiagnosis is the expensive bit, because a loose jack or a worn rear absorber can make the same sound.

If the car feels unstable at the back on a wet road, stop driving it hard and get the bushes checked before a highway trip.

Nota komuniti

Malaysian sellers list the rear trailing arm bush for the Iriz and Persona VVT, and also for the Exora, which shares the layout. Quotes for a pair with labour sit around RM280 to RM420. Polyurethane bushes are sold as an upgrade, but they add road noise and are not needed on a standard car. Confirm the noise is not the jack or spare wheel moving before paying for bushings.
