Engine Oil Change (Proton Saga)
整理中beginner所需工具: Socket Wrench · Oil Filter Wrench · Oil Drain Pan · Jack and Stands
Steps
Warm the engine for a few minutes
Jack the car and put it on stands
Set the pan and undo the sump plug
Remove the old filter and let it drain
Fit the new filter by hand only
Refit the plug and fill with 5W-30
Run it, then check for leaks and top up
The Saga runs the same CamPro VVT family as the Iriz, so the oil advice is the same. SAE 5W-30 is what the service data we hold lists, and it is what the Iriz fluids page shows for this engine family.
What a workshop charges
Doing it yourself costs the oil and a filter. A workshop charges RM150 to RM250 for the same job with labour on a small sedan. Prices checked 2026-10-26, from Malaysian 10,000km service price guides and workshop labour lists. The parts are cheap and common, so you are mostly buying labour.
What to check afterwards
- Cardboard under the sump overnight. A fresh drip means the plug or the filter gasket is not seated.
- Dipstick between MIN and MAX, five minutes after shutdown.
- Oil light out within a second of a cold start.
- Grade and litres named on the invoice. If the grade differs from your manual, ask why.
- Next change at 10,000km or six months, whichever comes first.
When to stop
A plug that will not move, a filter that will not come off, or a car that rocks on the stands. Stop and hand it over. This is one of the cheapest jobs on the car, so there is no sense risking a sump to save the labour.
