Engine Dies or Cranks Long (Fuel Pump Campaign)

- Engine dies while idling at a junction, a car park or a drive-through
- Long crank before it fires, and sometimes no start at all
- Power drops away under load, then comes back after a restart
- No warning light, no stored complaint the owner can see
Punca
The Denso fuel pump fitted to early third-generation Myvis came from a batch caught in a global Denso recall. Solvent used during production was left drying for too long, which could crack the pump's surface and let it absorb fuel until the impeller deformed and the pump stopped. Perodua ran it as a special service campaign rather than a public recall: owners of affected cars were written to in stages, and the pump was swapped free. Cars built from October 2019 onward are not in the affected build range.
Penyelesaian
Ask a Perodua service centre whether your car is in the campaign, using the chassis and engine numbers rather than the registration date. The replacement costs nothing and takes about half a day. Perodua said the failure shows up when the car is stationary rather than at speed, but a car that has just cut out at a traffic light is a car that will not restart, so do not leave it on the list for months. If the pump has already been changed, the invoice is the proof, and it is worth keeping with the service book when you sell.

This is a known part with a known fix, and the fix is free. That is rare enough to say plainly, and it is the whole reason to check the campaign before you pay a workshop to chase a stalling engine.
Two things trip owners up. The first is the letter, which went to the first owner’s address, so a second-hand 2018 car may be in the campaign with no paper trail in your hands. The second is the symptom, which looks like a battery, a starter or a dirty throttle body, and none of those fix a pump that is dying.
A car that cranks for five seconds and then catches, or dies once a week at the same traffic light, is the pattern. Take the chassis number to the counter.

Perodua had replaced pumps on about 40% of the affected cars by August 2020, and owners who bought second-hand often have no letter because it went to the first owner's address. A car with a long crank and no fault code is the shape to watch for.
