A word up front: this is not a recall list. We are not claiming any JPJ notices, factory recall campaigns, or TSB numbers — we do not have that data, and we will not invent it. What follows is a known-issues roundup grounded in community-verified data on the third-generation Perodua Myvi (D20N, 2018 onwards): the four issues Myvi owners actually report, in the pattern our troubleshoot pages use — symptoms, cause, solution.
1. CVT shudder at low speeds
- Symptoms: shudder or vibration at 10–30 km/h, hesitation pulling away from a standstill, unusual transmission noise at low RPM.
- Cause: the belt-and-pulley CVT develops shudder as the CVT fluid degrades. Stop-go traffic and hot climates make it worse.
- Fix: CVT fluid replacement with OEM-spec CVTF FE, around RM180 as a workshop job. If it persists after the change, the CVT belt needs inspection.
This is the most commonly reported issue across all Myvi variants. The community notes recommend regular fluid changes at 60,000km intervals as the best prevention, and many owners report improvement after switching to Idemitsu CVTF FE. Details on the CVT shudder quirk page.
2. Dashboard rattle on rough roads
- Symptoms: rattling from the dash on rough roads, squeaking from the A-pillar trim, a loose-feeling centre console.
- Cause: fit-and-finish issues on early production cars (2018–2020) — interior trim clips not tightly secured.
- Fix: adhesive-backed felt tape on contact points behind trim panels, plus replacement of broken plastic clips. Most owners fix it for under RM10.
Later production runs (2021+) use an improved clip design, so this one mostly belongs to the older cars. Cosmetic, not mechanical — see the dash rattle quirk page.
3. Power window motor failure
- Symptoms: a window that moves slowly or sticks halfway, a window that drops slightly when fully closed (anti-pinch misalignment), grinding from the regulator.
- Cause: a window motor and regulator assembly on 2018–2021 cars that wears prematurely — motor brushes wear down, regulator cables fray.
- Fix: replace the regulator assembly (motor and regulator sold as one unit), lubricating the channel with silicone spray during the swap. Around RM80.
The driver’s side window is the most affected, simply because it gets the most use. 2022+ assemblies are improved. More on the power window quirk page.
4. Engine mount wear
- Symptoms: vibration through the steering wheel and dash at idle, clunking when shifting from Park to Drive, visible engine movement when revving in neutral.
- Cause: rubber bushings in the engine mounts deteriorate and crack, especially with the stop-go traffic common in Malaysian cities. The left-hand (passenger-side) mount takes the worst of the engine torque loading.
- Fix: replace the worn mount, and inspect all three mounts at the same time — the others are often close to end of life. Around RM150, with OEM mounts recommended for best NVH.
This one is progressive and arrives later — community reports cluster at 80,000–120,000km. It is also the one to catch early, since a failed mount lets the drivetrain take collateral damage. See the engine mount quirk page.
The pattern
None of the four issues is a surprise bill. All of them have documented causes, documented fixes, and costs in the RM10–RM180 range. That is exactly why we track them: a Myvi owner who knows this list has already planned for everything the car is known to throw at them.
