Air Conditioner Not Cold

high
Coverage reviewed

Book a workshop soon. You do not need to stop driving today.

If ignored: Left alone, a known leak keeps draining the charge and the money goes on repeat regas.

Affects model years: 2018-Present

Symptoms

  • Vent air cools weakly, worst in slow traffic and afternoons
  • Compressor clutch cycles on and off rapidly
  • Cold at highway speed but weak at idle
  • Oily residue around condenser pipes or hose joints (leak indicator)

Cause

Reported Myvi aircond failures cluster around three causes: refrigerant leaking past aged O-rings or the condenser, a worn Denso compressor whose magnetic clutch starts slipping, and clogged condenser fins that cannot reject heat in urban traffic. The compressor is the expensive one; separate Malaysian price guides put a new original Denso compressor well above a reconditioned or OEM-market replacement once labour is added.

Solution

Get a pressure test and leak check first. Clean the condenser and fan before replacing anything, since a blocked condenser alone mimics a weak compressor. Regas with the correct measured charge if the system holds. If the clutch slips constantly or the compressor rattles, replace it; a reconditioned Denso unit is the budget path, a new Denso unit the durable path. Change the receiver-drier every time the circuit is opened.

Work the diagnostics from cheap to expensive. A Myvi that goes cold on the highway but fades in town almost always points at the condenser or fan, not the compressor.

Verified against Malaysian aircond parts listings naming Denso 447260-9990 for the Myvi D20N 1.5 and 447260-99803D for the 1.3, checked 2026-11-01.

Community notes

Owners often fix a not-cold Myvi for under RM200 (condenser cleaning plus regas), while a compressor swap can run several times that. Facebook Myvi clubs repeatedly warn against repeated cheap regas on a system with a known leak; the money is better spent finding the leak once. The compressor itself is a Denso unit; Malaysian parts sellers list the assembly as 447260-9990 for the 1.5 and 447260-99803D for the 1.3, and no Perodua counter number for the D20N unit could be confirmed, so quote the Denso number by engine.
