ABS Warning Light from Wheel Sensor
A wheel speed sensor can fail or get fouled by metal debris, cutting the speed signal to the ABS module. Sensor failures are among the most commonly cited causes of the ABS light in Myvi owner groups. On some cars the wiring harness to a sensor survives. On D20N Myvis the front sensors carry Perodua-style codes of the 89542-BZ120 / 89543-BZ120 type as listed by local parts sellers, but sensor codes vary by position and year, so confirm before ordering.
Air Conditioner Not Cold
Reported Myvi aircond failures cluster around three causes: refrigerant leaking past aged O-rings or the condenser, a worn Denso compressor whose magnetic clutch starts slipping, and clogged condenser fins that cannot reject heat in urban traffic. The compressor is the expensive one; separate Malaysian price guides put a new original Denso compressor well above a reconditioned or OEM-market replacement once labour is added.
Engine Dies or Cranks Long (Fuel Pump Campaign)
The Denso fuel pump fitted to early third-generation Myvis came from a batch caught in a global Denso recall. Solvent used during production was left drying for too long, which could crack the pump's surface and let it absorb fuel until the impeller deformed and the pump stopped. Perodua ran it as a special service campaign rather than a public recall: owners of affected cars were written to in stages, and the pump was swapped free. Cars built from October 2019 onward are not in the affected build range.
CVT Shudder at Low Speeds
The Perodua CVT uses a belt-and-pulley system that can develop shudder as the CVT fluid degrades. Low-speed shudder is more pronounced in stop-go traffic and worsens in hot climates.
Engine Mount Wear
The Myvi's engine mounts use rubber bushings to absorb vibration. Over time, especially in stop-go traffic conditions common in Malaysian cities, the rubber deteriorates and cracks. The left-hand (passenger-side) mount is most prone to failure due to engine torque loading.
Rough Idle from Dirty Throttle Body
Carbon and oil vapour deposits build up in the throttle bore and on the butterfly plate and idle air passages. Malaysian servicing guides describe sticky throttle body deposits as a routine Myvi issue in the 40,000-80,000km window, and it is worse on cars with higher idle hours in traffic.
Aircond Fan Only Works on One Speed
The blower resistor pack, which is the fan speed control, sits in the air stream behind the glovebox and drops voltage for each speed below maximum. When it fails, the top setting keeps working because full speed bypasses the resistor, so the fan appears healthy while every other setting is dead. Heat and damp in a Malaysian cabin are what kills it, not the blower motor.
Dashboard Rattle on Rough Roads
Early production Myvi models (2018-2020) had fit-and-finish issues where interior trim clips were not tightly secured. The dashboard and A-pillar trim are particularly prone to vibration.
Whine or Whistle When Accelerating (D-CVT)
The D-CVT fitted from the November 2021 facelift uses a belt and pulley set, and the belt runs under load at a pitch the cabin hears as a whistle. Owners who took the car to a Perodua service centre were told it is the gearbox characteristic, and a technician demonstrated it on other D-CVT Myvis, including a 1.5. The pre-facelift four-speed automatic does not make the sound at all, which is why people who traded up notice it immediately.
Power Window Motor Failure
Early production Myvi models (2018-2021) used a window motor and regulator assembly that can wear prematurely. The motor brushes wear down and the regulator cables can fray, especially on frequently used windows (driver's side is most affected).
