Proton Iriz
Coverage reviewedThe Proton Iriz is a B-segment hatchback that debuted in September 2014 on the P2 platform and stayed in production until September 2025. Proton sold it with 1.3 and 1.6 litre CamPro VVT engines, a Punch CVT across the range and a five-speed manual on the 1.3 Standard only, until the 2022 model year dropped the manual. A fun, safe and cheap city car that Malaysian owners either love for the chassis or avoid for the gearbox.

The Proton Iriz continues Proton’s habit of building driver-focused cars with steering feel and chassis tuning that embarrass the price tag. The handling work was done in Malaysia with Lotus input, and it is the reason a used Iriz still makes a better buy than its sales numbers suggest.
Key selling points include a five-star ASEAN NCAP rating, a cabin that fits four adults, and the six airbags fitted from the 1.6 Executive and 1.6 Premium upward. On price, the last list was RM42,800 for the 1.3 Standard CVT, RM50,300 for the 1.6 Executive CVT and RM57,300 for the 1.6 Active CVT, all on the road without insurance and inclusive of SST from 17 August 2022. Earlier lists ran cheaper, down to RM36,700 for the 1.3 Standard manual in April 2019.
Six trims were sold here across three facelifts: 1.3 Standard MT, 1.3 Standard CVT, 1.3 Executive CVT, 1.6 Executive CVT, 1.6 Premium CVT and 1.6 Active CVT. The manual and the 1.3 Executive died at the August 2021 facelift, and the Premium was replaced by the Active.
