Aircond Fan Only Works on One Speed

Symptoms

  • Fan runs only on the highest setting; the lower speeds do nothing
  • The fan works, then stops on one setting and later comes back
  • Air stays cold at full blast but the cabin is noisy and the cold is uneven
  • Speed settings die one at a time, starting with the slowest

Cause

The blower resistor pack, which is the fan speed control, sits in the air stream behind the glovebox and drops voltage for each speed below maximum. When it fails, the top setting keeps working because full speed bypasses the resistor, so the fan appears healthy while every other setting is dead. Heat and damp in a Malaysian cabin are what kills it, not the blower motor.

Solution

Replace the resistor pack rather than the blower motor. A workshop reaches it behind the glovebox in half an hour, and the part is sold for the third-generation car by Malaysian listings. Budget RM80 to RM140 fitted at 2026 prices. If nothing works on any setting, including the top one, that is the motor or its fuse and a different job.

The thing that fools people is that the fan still blows, so it does not feel broken. Cold air at full speed reads as a healthy aircond with a noisy fan, and owners live with it for months before asking.

One question settles most of it. Does the highest setting work? If yes, the motor is fine and the resistor is the part. If nothing works, stop looking at the resistor.

Do not accept a regas for this. The gas has nothing to do with fan speed, and a shop that starts there is guessing.

Community notes

Owners in the Malaysian Myvi groups describe the same sequence: one speed stops, then another, until only the fourth is left. The same failure is reported on earlier Myvis, which is why the part is sold for every generation, and the fix is the same.
